Fireworks 8 Easter Egg Revealed

Posted December 06, 2005 by senocular

A while ago I revealed that the egg existed in Fireworks 8 but never revealed what it was or how you get to it. I figured everyone has waited long enough (or has at least found out on their own elsewhere). So here it is...

Adobe Now Has Macromedia

Posted December 05, 2005 by senocular

As I'm sure you've heard, Adobe now possesses Macromedia. If you haven't seen, Macromedia's web site has already been adobefied (resistance is futile) and an Adobe Creative Suite + Macromedia Studio abomination is already available for purchase for the rediculously low, low price of just under $2000.00. Pocket change. What awaits us next? What does Adobe have in store for us Macromedians?

New Flash Tutorial: Dealing With Flash Button Event Capturing

Posted November 22, 2005 by senocular

Added a Flash new tutorial, Dealing With Flash Button Event Capturing. This deals with Flash's behavior of preventing nested button events from working when a parent instance contains a button event of its own. Two (and a half) methods of dealing with this are discussed. It's nothing new, but it has been brought up on a couple of forums recently, so I thought I'd do a quick writeup about it between the other many-o-things I've been working on.

Creating Fireworks Panels Part 2: Advanced Custom Panel Development

Posted November 14, 2005 by senocular

Read it while it's hot, Creating Fireworks Panels Part 2: Advanced Custom Panel Development, by me. This is part 2 of 2 in my, you guessed it, 2-part series covering custom panel development in Fireworks 8. This latest addition covers the creation process in the Annotations panel - and not just the Annotations panel, a new and improved version of it... well, kind of improved. I needed to omit some features for brevity. Nevertheless, I think it should be especially helpful to panel developers as it covers some undocumented features necessary for successful panel deployment. Enjoy.

ZenDoc 0.9.9 Released

Posted November 07, 2005 by senocular

ZenDoc 0.9.9 has been released. This is important mainly because you can now download and run ZenDoc locally (requires PHP 4.3.0+). I even included a command line option allowing you to run ZenDoc from the SE|PY ActionScript editor. I still need to address some things and I want to try and implement a way to generate documentation for packages. The ZenDoc documentation itself can certainly use some work as well, but I wanted to get this out there for anyone interested in having it.

New Fireworks Command: Batch Complete Alert

Posted October 28, 2005 by senocular

Added a new command for Fireworks, Batch Complete Alert. It allows you a way to be alerted when an excruciatingly long batch process is complete. You can have an alert dialog pop up with a message, run an application (with or without opening a file), or run another Fireworks command. The default is a command sure to get your attention, though moreso if you decide to open it with the Flash Player and not run it as a command.

Minor updates to the Fireworks Scale-3 and Scale-9 Component Auto Shapes added, along with some Windows (XP and Classic) form component examples.

New Fireworks Auto Shapes: Scale-3 and Scale-9 Components

Posted October 21, 2005 by senocular

I finally decided to release the much anticipated Scale-3 and Scale-9 Component Auto Shapes for Fireworks 8. I would liked to have been able to provide more examples and a tutorial on skinning, but I just don't have the time. I figured it was best just to release them now rather than to sit on them making everyone wait longer. I was at least able to manage some OS X skins which you can download from the extension detail page.

Note: Shapes dialogs apparently do not work on Macs. I'll look into it and post an update if I resolve the issue.

Update: The dialogs now work on Mac. I also made it so the extension could be run through the user app directory instead of the FW installation directory (for those who do not have permissions), however, the files would have to be installed manually. I will provide files and instructions for that shortly. They will be on the extension detail page.

senocular.com Mentioned in DTM Magazine

Posted October 20, 2005 by senocular

dtm magazine coversenocular.com is mentioned (with screenshot) on page 21 of the latest issue of DTM Magazine (jp). Chances are if you're not in Japan, landing a copy might be a little difficult, but I thank DTM for the inclusion nevertheless. It's always a pleasure seeing yourself (or your site) in print.
